What's the likely cause of a FAST oil leak from a '96 Ford Taurus?

My Taurus first had a slow oil leak which has recently become very fast. It was bone dry last night, but after putting in a quart, this morning the dipstick showed only a tiny amount was in there. After running a short distance (10 min. to and back) to church, it showed empty again. Where's it likely to be leaking from and how expensive would it be to fix? I am very low on funds...but not very knowledgeable about cars. What's the likely cause of a FAST oil leak from a '96 Ford Taurus?
First don't drive this way or you damage engine going to costly repair, then Chick is there oil in the ground if so try to see from where it comes from ,it helps to wash you car under to see where oil come from.If no oil under car then you may have piston rings problem which will need engine overhaulWhat's the likely cause of a FAST oil leak from a '96 Ford Taurus?
you did not say where the oil was puddeling... a guess.. the oil return on the head is clogged.. a troth on the head lead s to a hole that has a tube that return oil back to the crank case.. and the oil is being lost through the valve cover.. to be shure remove the plugs near the end of the engine. if the plug has oil on it in the area above where the threds are that is the proof.. of what iam guessing.. ok gilermo
a leak that fast is probably the drain plug is loose or the oil filter. a pan gasket only leaks when your driving the car, same way with valve pan gaskets. first, check the drain plug, then make sure the oil filter has only 1 gasket and make sure its tight.
Rear oil seal, every time. Very prevalent on Fords.

Check to see if the oil tends to be leaking between the engine and transmission. If it IS rear oil seal, it will likely cost in excess of $1000 to fix.
a cracked seal, or it could be that your oil filter needs tightening, try that first
