Maintenance issues with oil leaks?

and also -

In general what can be done to keep an engine in tip top shape

specifically for Chevy ';Cavaliers'; or any cars? What might cause an Oil Leak? What maintenance issues cause this possibly and what can prevent it?
Why don't you be specific? The question is too general. If you said you had an oil leak in your trunk, I would say you had a can of oil turned over and spilling out the weep hole. With today's modern cars, you could have an oil leak from the stem to the stern, for different reasons. Get a light, be specific. The question should be tossed out until it gets more refined. What might cause an Oil Leak? What maintenance issues cause this possibly and what can prevent it?
Well a bad gasket would lead to an oil leak, what could caused the bad gasket could be anything, too much oil, over heating, age, or defect. To keep a car running as good as possible you should just take care of it, regular maintenance, oil changes , tune ups.
The oil starts to leak if the oil gasket is worn or damaged or if it was put on wrong. To keep the engine in tip top shape. My uncle always recommends an oil change evry 3,000 miles or every 3 months which ever comes first. Also to check the gauges when your driving to make sure the oil pressure is ok and that the engine is not running hot. Also listen to when you start the car. Your car will warn you before there is something major wrong with your car. And trust your mechanic. Oh and try not to use those quick change oil places. They are in a rush and thats how some cars have missing gaskets or gaskets inserted wrong when you get the oil chnged.
