My car has an oil leak, I have been told its the cylinder head gasket?

The car was stripped at the front end 2 weeks ago to replace my radiator support after an accident. Could this have damaged the gasket as there was no leak prior to this. The same garage have told me its just wear. The car is 4 years old with 42000 miles on clock. Its a citreon xzara 1.4 and I have been quoted 拢350. Does this sound right? My car has an oil leak, I have been told its the cylinder head gasket?
sounds like you have a xsara 1.4 8 valve t u engine. if it is, then oil leaking from the head gasket is a common fault. it is not one of the hardest head gaskets to change. if you need any help please email me

good luckMy car has an oil leak, I have been told its the cylinder head gasket?
No, changing the radiator support could not have damaged the head gasket. However if all of your coolant spilled out during the accident and the engine continued running you could have wrapped a head and that could be causing the oil leak. But I would suspect a coolant leak before an oil leak. My best advice before someone works on it, is to steam clean the engine down, put some dye in the oil, let it run for about 10 minutes and then take a black light to it.
get a second opinion it could even be the oil filter if it had a tap when you had the accident do not part with your money until you know for sure what it is
It will be expensive, but make sure you take it to another garage for a quote (don't tell them what's wrong), just in case the garage is trying to trick you...
There's no reason why stripping it could have damaged the head gasket, unless you drove it with no coolant after the accident. And, for that matter, it's very unusual for a head gasket failure to cause an oil leak. I'd certainly go to another garage for an opinion and a quote. ';Just wear'; at that mileage isn't on . . .
That seems about right and it's not connected with the earlier damage BUT take it to another garage first for a second opinion
pretty low mileage for a head gasket if you've been doing regular maintenance; could be from strip.
I doubt the accident had anything to do with it, but it is possible. It's a real pain when the gasket goes...and expensive.
There are many places for oil to leak from on a car engine; just a few of them: sump drain plug, sump to crank case gasket, valve cover gasket , gland nut on engine oil pressure sender unit, front and rear crankshaft oil seals. You need to get your garage to be more specific which they surely can be if they do a thorough check. If they say they can't do that, look for another service garage or a mechanically minded friend whocould check the engine for you. How bad is the leak? Do you find a small or large puddle under the engine after the car has stood overnight? Do you get a smell of hot oil when the car's been running for 15 0r 20 miles . The biggest concern is : do you have to keep topping up the oil level? If you do you need help quite urgently. Good luck. Robert B
Take it to another garage and get a second opinion.
Head gaskets do not leak oil. If the oil is coming from the top of the engine it is probably upper engine oil seals on the cam shaft or valve cover gasket leaks.
no offence love, but your a woman

garages see you coming and just spout sh*t and make stuff up

it probably just needs topping up with oil which they'll charge you 600 quid for
Gaskets wear out like tires and brakes. So I agree that this repair could be due to just wear. The price is okay.
Sorry but they are taking you for a ride and its not in your car. Thats crap. Theres nothing wrong.
A damaged cylinder head gasket usually causes the water to boil away, not an oil leak.
the head gasket only need to move a fraction and its trouble..so it could well be that....can you look to see if there is a white residue under the oil filler cap..it called an emulsion and its water and oil mixed..or alternatively is there signs of oil in the water filler(*******do this test only when the car is cold..never when hot... as its dangerous when hot*****)...either would point to cylinder head gasket......but....it could be the rocker box gasket....lets hope it is as seriously its an easy fix if so can you describe where the leak is coming from?
When you had the accident did your car overheat white smoke, steam, etc? If so I would sayt it could have damaged the gasket.
keep your fluids in it if its the head gasket... you should be all set for 30,000 miles as long as you keep dumping in the fluids. and no 350 pounds doenst sound right - get your boyfriend to take it in so you dont get taken advantage of.
There is a big difference between a cylinder head gasket and a valve cover gasket. A much cheaper valve cover gasket will cause oil leakage but a cylinder head gasket will not. Go to a different shop......you are ready to be cheated.
definitely not.

an oil leak could have been caused by the impact

i would take it to another garage. not a main dealer
拢350 is a good price - I've had a head gasket go before, but at 42000 miles that's a little strange. I think it must have been the accident. Take it to a Citroen dealer because small garages will repair one thing after another until it costs a fortune wheras a dealer will diagnose everything immediately and fix it properly.

Hope it gets sorted - just accept that cars cost a lot to fix and you will probably have to fix something every year.
Is it actually a head gasket, or simply the gasket that holds the cover over the head?

If its the head gasket(expensive), then you will see oil in the coolant(mixing of oil and water). If it's just a oil leak off the gasket which holds the cover, then it will be much less.

Shop around to get the best deal...

Good luck!
