How do I clean the oil in 1st spark plug cylinder due to oil gasket leak?

I have a 93 Nissan Altima and the valve gasket needs replacing. I can replace the gasket but how do I clean the oil that leaked into the spark plug cylinder?

Valve cover gasket?

Or valve seal?

Either way, with the spark plug still out of the number one cylinder, rotate the piston to TDC or Top Dead Center, this is the highest point of travel the piston reaches in the cylinder.

If you want you can roll up a good quality paper towel and dab up some of the oil. You should not need to much more than that. Actually the electronic ignition burns hot enough to clear the cylinder.

The only reason I suggest rotating the engine over to TDC is just in case a lot of oil or fluid got into the cylinder, turning it over with the spark plug missing will prevent you from hydraulic-ing the cylinder, which theoretically could happen if enough fluids somehow entered the cylinder. At low rotation speeds, this could break a compression ring, and possibly bend a rod. In most cases the starter would just not be able to crank the engine around. I.E%26gt; Hydraulic the engine.

But once you crank the cylinder over with the spark plug still out. Clean the plug, check to make sure the gap is still correct, unless you are running gap-less. Put the wires back on and fire it up. You may get a small puff of smoke at the start, it will burn off quickly. How do I clean the oil in 1st spark plug cylinder due to oil gasket leak?
It takes awhile, you can use tough paper towels to soak up the oil in the cylinders, and most of the rest will burn off as you drive the car. Just be sure not to leave any paper in there to catch fire later. The spark plugs are easy to break off so be careful scooping out any crud left over, and remember, you don't want to remove any spark plugs until the cylinders are cleaned out to prevent contamination in the engine.
Use gasoline its great at cleaning off oil.
