I have been told i have an oil leak in my P-reg Nissan Serena 2.3 diesel van - would this contribute to the alternator failing? I had an alternator fitted 18 months ago and now have had to pay for another alternator again!!! Just wondering if anyone knows if the two are connected??? Apologies if i'm just being thick!!!!Would an oil leak on a Nissan Serena make the alternator die?
Only if the oil was spraying directly on to the alternator.Would an oil leak on a Nissan Serena make the alternator die?
only if the oil leak spayed onto the alt. i doubt it happened. but for the alt to go bad would be from something shorting it out or a faulty alt. when they replaced the alt they should of checked the charging system. get the battery checked, also see if the pulley tension is good, n check the belt it could b loose or old.
yes it could over a prolonged period of time..... how much oil was dripping into it, if that were the case and how hard it caused the brushes to work to generate the charge.
NISSAN IS SENSITIVE TO FACTORY PARTS, THE OIL LEAK WOULD ONLY AFFECT ALTERNATOR IF OIL GOES INTO ALTERNATOR
