I had a oil change done on my 1992 Toyota Camry and I was told i have a transmission and engine oil leak.?

How much does it usually cost to fix a problem like that.I had a oil change done on my 1992 Toyota Camry and I was told i have a transmission and engine oil leak.?
It depends on what part is leaking: Replace a leaking gasket or replace a leaking engine seal. Front and rear engine seals are pretty involved jobs to replace on the Camry, but the oil pan gasket and transmission pan gasket is a bit easier to replace. There are other parts that can leak, so we cannot tell how much work you need or that one replacement will do the trick. If they couldn't, or wouldn't tell you where they thought the leak originated, and this was one of those ';quick change'; oil shops, they have been known to exaggerate problems and hand you a huge repair estimate. Go to a shop with experts and more trustwothy mechanics..I had a oil change done on my 1992 Toyota Camry and I was told i have a transmission and engine oil leak.?
First have it checked at a different garage by someone you trust [[Make sure he is a certified mechanic]]. The problem could be the front or rear oil seal on the transmission. It could also be the transmission oil pan gasket. If it is the gasket have the transmission oil filter and oil changed in the transmission. If there is a trans. oil seal leak also change trans. oil and filter. I believe your oil leak will probably be a engine or trans. gasket. Possibly a tappet cover gasket or a engine oil sump gasket [possibly just loose bolts]. It could also be as simple as a oil sending unit leaking. Copy this and take it with you when you have things checked.
Depends on the nature of the leak. The worst kinds are those that require the transmission to be removed because of leaky seals at the end bearings.

The greatest cost is obviously the labor which is now at $100/hr.

You are looking at a 17 year old car for which it becomes problematic to pay a large repair bill, because at that age things will continuously require repairs.

If you can afford to make a small monthly payment, I would say go get a new reliable inexpensive car with a good warranty. I believe some of the Korean cars offer that and are getting quite good in quality as well.

Remember, it is just my opinion. Good luck.
It all depends on where the leaks are and what's involved in fixing them. I assume the repair shop gave you a quote on repairs as most shops do. If you're not satisfied with their quote, check around at other shops and see what they say. Just keep in mind that sometimes you get what you pay for.
For the transmission leak, you would have to replace the gasket on the oil pan. For the engine leak, you just need a bottle of 'Stop Leak'. So it will run you about $100 to $120 parts, labour and taxes.
It's hard to say because Haven't told us exactly what part of the engine or transmission are leaking. Need more information. Anyway, good choice of car.
